Brian Roe is Best of Show -

Brian Roe hails from Little Rock, Arkansas, originally. He relocated to the scenic northern part of the state, in Harrison Arkansas, in the late 1980’s, where he is currently a part of the Elton Roe Architect firm. He serves there as an architectural draftsman and home designer.

Early in life he had an interest in art. He began painting with watercolors, and stayed with watercolor as a medium through his college years where his primary teacher was the late Don Kitz. After a long hiatus, in 2013, Brian began working under the tutelage of long-time art teacher, Gene Brantley, at The Gallery on Ridge Street in Harrison, Arkansas. Since then, Brian has discovered the nearly infinite possibilities of painting with oils, particularly the technique of glazing which allows oil paints to be applied in multiple transparent layers to attain the subtleties and depth that one sees in nature.

Many of his paintings involve water scenes, which gives an endless variety of opportunities to apply glazing. His inspiration comes directly from nature, and also from the Hudson River school of painters, who painted such grand and beautiful nature scenes, primarily views of the Catskill Mountains, in the mid to late 19th century.

His artwork has won Best of Show twice, in 2014 and again in 2019, at the annual Painting the Ozarks painting exhibit at the Edwards Art Gallery, College of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, Missouri.
